Jack Morton
I'm Jack Morton, a teacher in my 10th year at CCCHS. I consider myself very lucky to have a job that I truly enjoy along with the health to go to work each day. I attended the next-to-last one-teacher one-room school in the state when in grades 1-8 in Lewis County near Hohenwald. I graduated from Nashville's West High School in 1967 and from MTSU in 1972 (B.A.) and 1974 (M.A.). I am a Career Ladder Level III teacher. I taught Driver Education in Metro Schools for nearly three years. I worked over 20 years in the Dept. of Correction at Spencer Youth Center, Nashville Regional Correctional Facility, Highland Rim School for Girls in Tullahoma, Tennessee Youth Center in Joelton, Tennessee State Penitentiary, and Tennessee Prison for Women. I held positions of teacher, Recreation Director, High School Principal, and Associate Director in Corrections. I was a head softball coach, assistant football coach, and assistant boxing coach. I served as Chairman of Disciplinary Board and Grievance Commitees. I helped train supervisors and mid-level managers by conducting in-service training classes on Report Writing, Employee Relations and Supervision, Computer System Training, and Managing Change. I had the unusual experience of teaching on death row and in protective custody units at the old men's prison in Nashville. I also helped catch juvenile escapees and was trained in hostage negotiations.
I have coached baseball in Jr. Knothole, Dixie Youth, Dixie Boys, little League, Babe Ruth, and High School, and I have coached travel teams in 13-15 and 16-18 year old age groups. I coached Cheatham County Youth League Basketball teams at East Cheatham for 5 years and was their Jr. Pro Representative for four years. I also organized, chartered, and coached Cheatham County's first boys AAU team. I umpired literally thousands of baseball and softball games at all levels of amateur competition including college and semi-pro baseball and several softball tournaments with the top teams from across the United States, several state championship tournaments, an Amateur Softball Association Men's Major Open Division Regional (7-state area) Championship Game.
At CCCHS, I have served as Assistant Baseball coach, Athletic Director, Assistant Principal, and have taught Health, Driver Education, and Freshman in Transition classes.
My sons, Eric and Brett, graduated from CCCHS and my wife, Judy, has taught 4th grade at East Cheatham for several years. My hobbies include sports, hunting, fishing (especially for big catfish), and photography.
